Mark Harada Australian Singer/Songwriter
Mark Harada is a singer/songwriter from Sydney, Australia who spent 1 week at our recording studio in Makati recording drums, bass, guitar and vocals for his original compositions.
Mark's tunes can be called folk/alternative, singer/songwriter style ala Wilco, Pete Yorn... melancholic, happy, earthy, real and authentic. Lots of vibe in the songs, really really nice to listen to.
Inside, you can watch a video clip of Mark Harada in the studio and listen to clips of his original song compositions.

Mridangam, Drum from South India played by Canadian Singer/Songwriter
We would like to share these session photos of James Roop playing the Mridangam, a two sided drum/percussion instrument used in South Indian music. During the session, we called the instrument either bongos or drums, but we were all curious what this drum instrument is really called.
Thanks to Wikipedia, now we have an idea...
The mridangam is a double-sided drum whose body is usually made using a hollowed piece of jackfruit wood about an inch thick. The two mouths or apertures of the drum are covered with a goat skin leather and laced to each other with leather straps around the circumference of drum. These straps are put into a state of high tension to stretch out the circular membranes on either side of the hull, allowing them to resonate when struck. These two membranes are dissimilar in width to allow for the production of both bass and treble sounds from the same drum.
James is a Canadian singer/songwriter currently based in the Philippines. Click the title for more information about this South India drum recording session.

Foley sounds: Fireworks and firecracker explosions in the Philippines
Free foley sounds of fireworks and firecracker explosions in Makati, Philippines. I received the M-Audio microtrack II just in time for the New Year festivities, thus here are sounds of the fireworks and firecrackers exploding all over Makati, Philippines during the last hour of 2007 and the first minutes of 2008. These sounds may hint at a warzone like Iraq or Sulu but NO, it's from a country of people fond of celebrating the New Year with a BIG BANG! Check them out.

Live Remote Recording with Macbook Pro and Digi 003Rack
I received my brand spanking new MacBook Pro just a day before the Blueskrieg Blues Night special at 19East - this is a special concert production for us coz of Binky and Lampano Alley in the artist lineup - I've always intended to record and video the gig since getting the date confirmed 10 days ago.
Anyway, I trust Mac's with ProTools so much that I went ahead with the live remote recording intent despite limited runtime with the Macbook Pro (a 2.4 Dual Core with 4Gigs of RAM). I recorded 8 tracks from the Midas Legend 3000 board's direct out...
Inside, hear the mixed audio tracks

Royer SF-12 stereo ribbon microphone for easy Blumlein & MS recordings
We're excited to enter the wonderful world of easy* stereo recordings – with excellent analog sound quality – as the Royer SF-12 stereo coincident ribbon microphone can deliver. We put up the Royer SF-12 as overhead mic on drums – which in hindsight was appropriate for the session – a punk (speed punk) style of drumming with lots of hits (LOTS of hits) – from the kick drum to the snare to the cymbals. Here are some photos of the drum microphone setup for that session with the Royer SF-12 about 6.5feet high in the middle of the drum kit. Just one more sound weaving options for drummers – only at Sound Weavers. Enjoy the drum recording session photos inside.

Recording in the trenches, haul the studio out to record a baby grand piano
One lazy Wednesday afternoon in April, I was thrilled and challenged by a rather unique call - for Sound Weavers to record a baby grand piano concert to be performed at a particular residence. Hmmm, ok. So I have always thought that such a remote recording requirement will come, and I have been surely preparing for - ensuring that our recording studio staff and equipment will be ready for such task when the opportunity, time - and the call - comes knocking. Here's how we did it, recording in the trenches baby!

Fire hits the studio
No, not that “fire” - but that fiery FIREBOTTLE blues band fronted by Joric Maglanque AKA DELTA SLIM - a self confessed soul dredger, err, soul bender - one of the few local ambassadors of blues music (don’t even bring up blues in a conversation unless you are ready to sit for a blues history lesson - LOL).

Snakecharmer Sting Me with the Blues

SNAKECHARMER is one of the bands playing blues-based music featured in the BLUESKRIEG compilation CD project. If the name rings a bell, it's coz they are very active in the live music scene spreading the gospel of the blues.
SNAKECHARMER plays a modern sounding kind of blues music along the lines of The Black Crowes. Snakecharmer is composed of Jason on vocals and harmonica, Mitch on bass guitar, Zan on rhythm and lead guitar, Reuben on rhythm and slide guitar, Mon on drums and Roneil on keyboards.

BluesKrieg! Pinoy blues bands attack the studio
THE BLUES is alive and well in the Philippines - well in the Metro at least - next year BLUES will surely spill and explode throughout the country. BLUES ATTACK = Blueskrieg.
August and September was especially exciting here at Sound Weavers coz of recording sessions for the BluesKrieg project - an ambitious CD compilation featuring Pinoy blues-based music only and played by a current crop of blues-based bands, er.. "artistes" actively playing Metro Manila's club circuit.

Recording the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra at the CCP
Two days of great experience with like minded invdividuals - all in pursuit of great sounding recordings. I was tasked to assist in putting up the microphones and also helped in line checking/leveling - but for the most part I was just awed listening to this type of music "live" and off the KRK V8 monitors.
